This weekend sees Nomads Reserves kicking off their new season with a home game against last season’s bogey side Malpas.

August is a notable month in the Cheshire League with Nomads scheduled to play 8 games over the next 25 days.

It has been a solid pre-season, results not reflecting the performances or development of the young squad, hoping to build on last season’s impressive 5th place finish.

With four of last year’s Under 18’s squad progressing into the Reserves and some new signings it was important to gel the squad together and had several sessions together before games against Rochdale Sacred Heart, Burnley United, Chadderton Reserves, Wilmslow Albion, and Whaley Bridge.

The highlight was an impressive win at Wilmslow Albion and a 3-3 draw away to Cheshire League Premier Division team Whaley Bridge.

Several players impressed, with new signing Jordan Downing looking very good as well as Sam Lynch, Joel Riley, Reece Skelton, and youngster Louis Quinn.

There has also been a tweak to the management setup. Jon Hudson has been promoted to Joint Manager with Callum Davies and Ryan Wilkinson will become the Assistant Manager.

Hudson is looking forward to the new season. “We wanted a big pre-season after a disappointing end to last season and the lads all came back in good spirits and worked really hard. We have had to make some difficult decisions but we’re very happy with the squad and just want to get started now”.

“We made a slow start last season and it means you are always playing catch-up. Vulcan, Winnington Park and Whalley Bridge all made great starts last year and were never out of that top three so we know how important that start is.

Malpas are the visitors this weekend, they did the double over Nomads last season but have started the season with two very different results. A solid 1-1 draw with Blacon Youth on the opening day was followed up with a 6-0 home defeat to Sandbach United Reserves on Wednesday night.
