Despite enjoying the lions share of possession, Nomads under 18’s succumbed to a 4-3 league defeat to Glossop North End on Sunday. The young Nomads started the game well and deservedly took the lead midway through the first half. Luke Tinsley showed great composure in the box, beating two players and placing the ball past the keeper into the top corner. Nomads should have been more comfortable but were unable to make possession count and the visitors soon drew level. It was the home team that took the lead again shortly after thanks to a well taken finish by George Buckingham.
The second half started with Glossop much more focused and putting the home team under a lot of pressure. This soon told as the visitors turned the deficit into a 3-2 advantage. Luke Tinsley got his second of the game and Nomads third soon after but Glossop were to get the all important winner as time ran out
Manager Sam Holtham gave us his thoughts on the match:
After last week’s frustrating defeat to Stalybridge, we were looking to bounce back with a good performance this week against Glossop.
We dominated possession and found ourself 2-1 up at half time. It could of been more but we didn’t manage to convert some clear cut chances which could have seen us comfortably ahead at half time.
In the second half, individual errors and poor ball retention cost us, we struggled with our transition and ended up losing the game as a result.
The positives to take away are that we scored 3 goals, playing really good football and created lots of chances, we simply need to be more ruthless inside the box.
I am very pleased with the effort from all involved today and feel confident that once we tidy up our transition and out of possession principles, the team will easily turn good performances into results.
Good luck to Glossop for the season and we look forward to the return fixture
