Nomads recent unbeaten run was brought to an end at Abbey Hulton where chances taken were to prove decisive. The home team won the match 3-1 with all the goals scored in the first half.
Nomads controlled the majority of possession in the first half but were unable to make it count and it was the visitors that scored first. A long ball from the keeper was not dealt with by the Nomads defence and the Abbey Hulton striker was able to round Alex Fowell and put them ahead.
Danny McLaughlin continued his fine scoring form and soon levelled up for Nomads but 2 quick goals before half time put the home side in front at the break.
The second half was a very disjointed affair and Nomads were unable to make any headway as Abbey Hulton grew into the game. Despite controlling possession for the majority of the game, Nomads could not influence the result and the match finished with a win for the home side.
Manager Jake Davies gave us his thoughts after the match:
“Following yesterday’s result we are really disappointed that defensively we have given away so many individual errors that has ultimately cost us 3 goals.
Coming in 3-1 down at half time certainly wasn’t a reflection of the football being played as we were totally dominant, the ball retention and sustained pressure we had is what we have been working towards over the last 10 games, arguably the best football we have played all season in possession. The out of possession bits let us down massively, the group has so much individual ability but we need to be more focussed and intense when regaining the ball.
If we can get that sorted, we will have no issues whatsoever. Given the opportunity we had to really apply some pressure on the teams above us, we know opportunities won’t come around all season to do that and you have to take the ones you get. Really pleased we’ve a game Tuesday, another opportunity to put this behind us quickly.”
