Nomads produced one of their best displays of the season to earn all three points against Sandbach United.

Former Nomads midfielder Callum Evans was making his second debut for the home side.

Both sides started well but the visitors took an early lead. Kyle Foley with a great cross finished off by Kieran Alley. It was 2-0 and Foley was involved again, bursting into the box only to be fouled by Merner. McLaughlin, returning after a few games out, slotted home the penalty.

The Sandbach keeper was the busier keeper and made a string of smart saves to keep the score 2-0 at half time.

The home side started the second half better but it was the visitors who made it 3-0 on the hour mark. Milne seizing on a mistake from the Sandbach keeper to pass the ball into the Sandbach net.

Sandbach then got back into the game, Barton scoring from the penalty spot.

However, Nomads continued to dominate the game and never looked in any real danger.

After the game we got the thoughts of Manager Jake Davies:

Today was a fully deserved 3 points, from minute 1 to 90 we were better than Sandbach, our performance was outstanding.

The players have shown a real solidity and tactical flexibility over the last couple of weeks and have got their just rewards today. I thought in particular today, Kieran Alley, Jordan Milne and Kieran O’Connell were exceptional.

The opening goal was a great counter attack in the left channel and fair play to Kyle for doing a lot more running behind and the quality of cross he’s produced to pick Kieran Alley out at the back stick was pure quality, a great header as well. I thought defensively we grown into the game and restricted them to only 2 big chances which is brilliant from our point of view and a step in the right direction. We seem to have a balance to the offensive and defensive side to our game now.

As we approach the last 7 games for us we want to win as many as possible and compete for the 7th placed finish, the challenge we’ve given is to try and achieve the clubs highest finish and make a little bit of small history and put the platform down for next season.

I’m pleased for all the players, staff and committee as their support for myself and what we are doing is immense. We’re really looking forward to Tuesdays visit to Rocester.”
